The Winston-Salem accounting firm of Root Sawyer Wilkerson Woods & Co. - formerly Touche Ross - has expanded to Greensboro, leasing a suite in an office building at 232 N. Edgeworth St.

The office downtown opened Monday with five accountants, including partners Bradford K. Root and L. Warren Woods. Root and Woods live in Greensboro. The firm is taking part of the space at 232 N. Edgeworth left vacant when another accounting firm, McGladrey & Pullen, moved late last year to the new Renaissance Plaza on North Elm Street.

Root Sawyer Wilkerson Woods also has relocated its Winston-Salem office to the One Triad Park building. Partners Carl D. Sawyer and J. Tracy Wilkerson will head that office, which will have a staff of about 30. The firm previously was located at 101 S. Stratford Road.

Root, Sawyer, Wilkerson and Woods acquired the Touche Ross Triad office last year after the international accounting business merged with Deloitte Haskins & Sells, which had a major office in Greensboro. The latter now is known as Deloitte & Touche.

Sawyers said his firm is opening a Greensboro office because it already has a significant customer base in the city.

``We plan to grow it until eventually it is the same size as our Winston-Salem office,' he said.
