#10 of TIMELESS SERMONS by Rev. Grant R. Hayes, Jr. “Jesus, the Great Provider” Why should we fret or worry about anything? Jesus is abundantly able to provide for our emotional and physical needs. Jesus knows that we have need of food, drink, clothing, shelter, transportation, and money. There are special promises in Scripture concerning our provisions. One such promise reads, “Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they” (Matt. 6:26)? In Matthew 14 and John 6, King Herod had just beheaded John the Baptist to satisfy the request of a dancing girl in his court. Even though King Herod knew that John was dead, Herod still knew that John’s ministry was connected to Jesus. Jesus’ life was threatened, so Jesus decided to go into seclusion. Jesus chose a private place in the desert, but the multitudes sought Him out. Nearing the end of the day, Jesus’ disciples suggested that Jesus dismiss the crowd so that they may buy food in a nearby village. Jesus responded to His disciples, “They need not depart; give ye them to eat.” His disciples thought this was impossible because they only had five loaves of bread and two fishes. But where the disciples saw an impossibility, Jesus saw an opportunity! Jesus commanded the multitude of more than 5,000 to sit on the grass. Jesus blessed the food, it was miraculously multiplied “And they did all eat and were filled.” There was so much excess that the disciples collected 12 baskets of leftovers! Jesus is the Master of plenty, and YOU SIMPLY CANNOT BEAT JESUS GIVING! HE HAS PROMISED TO SUPPLY ALL OF OUR NEEDS ACCORDING TO HIS RICHES IN GLORY (Philip. 4:19). Jesus knows our needs and He is able and willing to supply them because He is our Great Provider. If you have been blessed, then be a blessing.
