A Pan Am jumbo jet returned to London shortly after takeoff Wednesday when a fiberglass panel fell off a wing, an airline spokesman said.

The San Francisco-bound Boeing 747 landed without incident at Heathrow Airport with 392 passengers and a crew of 16. The passengers left later Wednesday on another plane, said Pan Am spokesman Stephen Heckscher. The captain of Flight 125 noticed the panel had fallen off about 30 minutes into the flight, Heckscher said.

He said the panel fit between the fuselage and the wing flaps.
