Reserve freshman Migjen Bakalli hit two free throws with 1.9 seconds left Wednesday night as North Carolina State rallied to edge Robert Morris 90-88.
Bakalli was fouled by Joe Falletta while the two were scrambling for a long pass. After Bakalli's two free throws, Robert Morris could not get a shot off before the final buzzer.Chris Corchiani scored 20 of his 24 points in the second half to lead the Wolfpack (14-6). Rodney Monroe added 23 and Bryant Feggins finished with 21.
Myron Walker led Robert Morris (16-10) with 24 points, while Ricky Cannon had 22 and Andre Boyd 15.
Walker tied the score at 88 on a 10-foot jumper with six seconds left. Tom Gugliotta then quickly fired a long inbounds pass to Bakalli, who was fouled by Falletta near the three-point line.
The Wolfpack trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half before Corchiani caught fire. He scored 15 points in the final 11 minutes to rally N.C. State.
The Wolfpack missed 15 of its last 18 field goal attempts in the first half as the teams settled for a 32-32 tie at intermission.
"I got tripped," Bakalli said. "I hit the floor so fast and at first I didn't hear a whistle."
Despite allowing the Ciolonials to shoot 71 percent from the floor in the second half, N.C. State coach Les Robinson said the Wolfpack defense turned the game around.
"Our trapping defense caused big turnouvers and chagned the flow of the game ," Robinson said. "We were gambling on defense so we could get a steal or a rushed shot."
Robert Morris head coach Jarrett Durham thought the key to the game was when Boyd fouled out.
