Greensboro’s newest Aldi store will open on New Garden Road in July, a company spokesperson said.

The store at 1507 New Garden Road adds to the grocery store options in that area. There is a Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods and The Fresh Market nearby.

Aldi is a discount supermarket chain with more than 9,500 stores worldwide, most of them in Europe. The chain was founded in Germany.

The Aldi grocery model eliminates baggers and elaborate store displays as ways of streamlining costs and passing those savings on to customers. Shoppers pay a quarter to use a shopping cart, but the money is refunded when the cart is returned. Customers also bring their own shopping bags or use the store’s discarded boxes.

Aldi operates three other stores in Guilford County: 4222 High Point Road and 2920-C Randleman Road in Greensboro, and 3306 N. Main St., High Point.
