GREENSBORO - Pi Day is an annual celebration on March 14 commemorating the mathematical constant pi (3.14159265....) And what better way to celebrate Pi Day on Saturday than by buying a pie?
The drum corps Cakalak Thunder will host its second annual Pie Auction from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at The People's Perk, 551 S. Mendenhall St.
Cakalak Thunder and other community members will auction off home-made pies as well as optional fun dates with the pie makers. The event is geared towards people of all ages.
Cakalak Thunder is a Greensboro-based radical drum corps that exists to challenge, defy, and transform all forms of oppression.
The group has been a staple of the community for 11 years and has been building revolutionary relationships throughout the state by playing in solidarity at community actions and events, teaching drumming workshops, and supporting local artists. Cakalak Thunder's goal is to build a world that is democratic, just, accessible, and sustainable.
Cakalak Thunder relies on community support and member donations for all expenses. Proceeds from the pie auction will finance drum repair, workshops and gas reimbursement. A portion of the proceeds will support local projects and efforts in the #blacklivesmatter movement.
