The downside of asking the city of Greensboro for an accounting of $4.1 million worth of legal expenses is that you will get dozens of pages of documents that you will then have to read.
The pay off is on page 17 of 23 of the automobile liabilities report, where you will learn the very unfortunate thing that happened to Lewis Scott's fruit.
A field operations crew "mistakenly picked up (Scott's) equipment and watermellons (sic) and destroyed them."
Yes, you read that right. Destroyed them.
There is probably a perfectly good explanation for all this. Perhaps this was a trash crew that thought Scott's roadside fruit patch was refuse. Maybe they were hungry and they ate them. Lord knows what kind of equipment was harmed in the incident.
I don't know. And really, knowing the truth would probably make it so much less hilariously.
So, I will just leave you with this.
The city paid Scott $528.11 for his troubles.
