GREENSBORO — One of the “I pooted” billboards in the Triad has come down after officials at N.C. A&T expressed concerns.

The offending message, part of a 25-market teaser campaign to promote the Cartoon Network, appeared on a Fairway Outdoor Advertising billboard along U.S. 29 North.

The billboard stands on A&T property.

“The university and our constituents did not feel as if the copy on that specific billboard portrayed or represented the vision, the mission and the purpose of our university,” said Mable Scott, A&T’s associate vice chancellor for development and university relations. “Some people driving down 29 did not understand if this was something in connection with the university.”

Scott said Fairway officials took down the “I pooted” billboard earlier this week and replaced it with another from the Cartoon Network campaign.

The new message reads “Shiny, shiny. Pretty, pretty.”

It’s a line from the program “My Gym Partner Is a Monkey.”

The “I pooted” line comes from a character named Cheese from the show “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends.”

“We didn’t say, per se, take the billboard down,” Scott said. “ We were able to work out an agreement for all involved.”

Efforts to reach Dan O’Shea, Fairway’s general manager, were unsuccessful Thursday. But in an interview Monday, O’Shea called the “I pooted” message “questionable.”

An official with the Cartoon Network says the change here is the first for the campaign.

“This is the first we are hearing of that situation,” said James Anderson, a vice president for the Atlanta network. “It is also the first of that type situation that we have had in any market.”

The Cartoon Network has messages on 12 billboards in the Triad. There’s another “I pooted” billboard along Interstate 40/85 near South Elm-Eugene Street.
