Top-level Guilford County managers will have to grin and bear it from now on.
The Board of Commissioners voted 5-1 this week to eliminate compensatory time for the county manager, department directors and assistants to the manager.Compensatory time gives employees time off or pay for working extra hours, but management-level employees usually only collected time off.
About 25 to 30 of those employees won't get that any more, based on the commissioners' decision.
A management resource center had recommended that all management and supervisory-level employees have their compensatory time cut, which would have affected more than 600 employees. County Manager Brenda Jones opposed that idea and presented the commissioners with the compromise they approved Thursday.
Commissioner Katie Dorsett opposed the compromise, saying it is unrealistic to expect the managers to put in extra time without relief.\
