It was an unlikely setting for a romantic rendezvous, the skies over the Saudi Arabian desert.
But Dennis Malfer Jr. and his wife, Bridget, both captains in the Air Force, managed to exchange greetings on Valentine's Day as her tanker was refueling his jet.Malfer's father, Dennis Malfer Sr., said Saturday he received a phone call from his son, who told about the airborne meeting.
``He was returning from a mission - he flies an F-4G Wild Weasel,' the father said. ``There are only about 50 Weasels over there, so when they started to approach the fuel tanker someone asked if there was a 'Malf' on board - that's my son's nickname.'
Bridget Malfer was the navigator on the tanker.
``He said, 'Yeah, I'm here,' and a female voice said, 'Happy Valentine's Day.' He knew who it was right away.'
