Two Greensboro boys who decided to take a lively Sunday ride in a stolen red truck put a novel end to a police chase Sunday: They backed into a Burlington police cruiser.

The boys, ages 13 and 14, were being questioned by police Sunday afternoon. No charges had been filed. No one was injured in the chase, which began in Greensboro. The truck was stolen from Crown Nissan of Greensboro.

Greensboro police chased the youths Sunday morning on Interstate 40 until they reached the Burlington city limits, where Burlington police officer J.C. Bigelow caught up with the boys and chased them for about two miles. Bigelow said he didn't know how fast he or the boys were traveling.

Things took a turn for the worse when the driver veered right at West Webb Street and went up a steep embankment.

``He was trying to make a right, but I think he just lost it,' Bigelow said.

Bigelow pulled up next to the hill and got out of the cruiser to wait. He figured the boys weren't going anywhere.

He figured something else when he saw the truck back down the hill and into the front of his police car. The collision rang up $5,000 in damages to the police car.

``He said he didn't see it,' Bigelow said of the driver.
