A 3-year-old Davidson County girl died early Friday following a two-car accident north of Lexington the night before.
Wendy Samantha Lou Thomas of Welcome died shortly after midnight Friday at N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem after the car she was riding in collided with a tractor trailer truck on U.S. 29 seven miles north of Lexington, authorities say.According to Trooper G.L. Allison, the 6:40 p.m. incident Thursday unfolded this way:
Wendy was riding in the front seat with her 24-year-old mother, Crystal Denise Thomas, when their car pulled out in front of a tractor trailer, traveling 55 mph north on U.S. 29, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
The tractor trailer, driven by Aubrey Levann Curl of Colfax, hit the right side of Thomas' 1984 Toyota. The tractor trailer then jackknifed, hit a guardrail and slid 137 feet.
Thomas' car spun around, slid 50 feet and hit a guard rail.
Thomas was listed in serious condition Friday at N.C. Baptist Hospital. Curl, 39, wasn't seriously injured. All three were wearing seat belts. Charges are pending.
