Politics surpassed the national pastime among TV viewers Sunday.

According to preliminary ratings, at least four times more households were tuned to the presidential debate than to the baseball game.CBS, which skipped the debate and stuck with the playoff game between Toronto and Oakland, scored an 8.3 rating and 13 share of the audience for the 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. time slot.

The debate among the three major candidates, which was carried live on seven other networks, racked up a total rating of at least 40 and an audience share of 60.
