How does the title President Dole sound? The latest poll indicates it's possible.

Sen. Robert Dole, R-Kan., would love it. He's wanted the nation's top job for years. But in this poll, the minority leader's wife, U.S. Labor Secretary Elizabeth Dole, is the winner.

By a large margin, readers of McCall's magazine picked her as their choice to be the first woman president of the United States.

Elizabeth Dole, who grew up in Salisbury and graduated from Duke University, was favored by 25 percent of the 5,284 women readers surveyed.

Typically, her husband reacted to the poll with a one-liner.

``I told everybody to save all those Dole buttons - looks like I was right.'
