The end of summer means the beginning of fair season. The first of several fairs in the Rockingham County area will be held beginning Labor Day weekend.

Eden Agricultural Fair \ The Eden Agricultural Fair is scheduled Sept. 2-7 at the fairgrounds located off N.C. 87 North in Eden.This year the fair will have a ``State Fair' quality midway, according to Ed Hopper, fair manager. A three-year contract has been signed with Tolve Presentations and Amusement Rides of Lyndhurst, N.J., to provide rides, games and concessions. The fair will feature 18 to 22 rides, numerous games and plenty of food concessions.

Monday is Family Night, when people with a special coupon can ride all night for $6. Coupons are available at local schools and in newspapers. Rain date for Family Night is Tuesday.

Exhibits will be judged Tuesday.

Wednesday is Buddy Night. Buy one ticket and your buddy rides free.

On Thursday, Coca-Cola Night, bring any Coke can or bottle and be admitted free. Fair-goers will also receive a free ticket for drawings for $500 and two bicycles. The drawings will be held at 11 p.m. Saturday. You do not have to be present to win.

Non-profit exhibitors will be provided free space at the fair and may sign up for space by going by the fair office.

Admission is $1.

Caswell County Fair \ The Caswell County Fair will be held Sept. 2-7 at the fairgrounds on County Home Road in Yanceyville.

Featured will be live bands each night, a special Senior Citizens Day and drawings for prizes.

Carnival rides will be provided by the Henry T. Cole Show.

Exhibits will be judged Tuesday, while cattle and other animals will be judged Wednesday afternoon.

Also on Wednesday, senior citizens age 60 and older, as well as school children, will be admitted free. Seniors will also be treated to free entertainment and free refreshments that day.

On Wednesday and Friday drawings for a children's bicycle will be held.

A pet show, with prizes and awards for the best pets, will be held Thursday evening.

On Saturday all children with school tickets will be admitted free from 1 to 6 p.m.

The entertainment schedule is:

8 p.m. Monday: The Bandits

8 p.m. Tuesday: City Limits

5:30 p.m. Wednesday: Bartlett Yancey High School Band; 8 p.m., Green River Boys

9 p.m. Thursday: City Limits

9 p.m. Friday: Shotgun

9 p.m. Saturday: Shotgun

Hours are 6 p.m. to midnight Monday and Tuesday, 2 p.m. to midnight Wednesday, 6 p.m. to midnight Thursday and Friday, and 1 p.m. to midnight Saturday.
