The inaugural meeting of the Beazley Scholars will be held at 3:30 p.m. March 28 in Frith Hall Chapel at Averett College in Danville, Va.
The Virginia College Fund established the Beazley Scholarships with a grant from the Beazley Foundation this past year. The fund supports a scholarship to a selected outstanding student at each of the seven member colleges: Averett, Bluefield, Ferrum, Eastern Mennonite, Southern Seminary, Virginia Intermont and Shenandoah. Joyce Renee Dawson was selected as the Averett Beazley Scholar last fall at convocation exercises. It is the intention of the scholarship to bring all the scholars and representatives of the schools together during the year to participate in a seminar and to recognize the students for their achievements. This year the presidents of all seven member schools of the Virginia College Fund will be present.
Dr. William Trakas, Averett president of history, will give the keynote address and lead a discussion on the subject of the profound political changes occurring in Eastern Europe. The seminar will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Frith Hall Chapel. The public is invited to attend.
