Almost 100 people gathered at an anti-racist protest of in downtown Graham, N.C., on Saturday, April 3, 2021. Alamance County and Graham anti-racist organizations gathered to express their concern about the hiring of Douglas Strader by the Graham Police Department and to show support for the family of Marcus Smith. The Graham Police Department recently hired Strader who was fired from by the Greensboro police for violating policy by firing his weapon into a vehicle fleeing a crime scene. He was also one of the Greensboro police officers involved when Marcus Smith was hogtied and died in 2018. At the protest organizers demanded that Strader be removed from the Graham Police Department.
