A young girl was badly injured in a go-cart accident in Randolph County and airlifted to Duke University Medical Center for treatment Saturday night.

Thomas Wood, a county emergency services dispatcher, said the girl was in ``a life-threatening condition' after she was thrown out of the recreation vehicle about 8 p.m. at a house at 1107 Red Lane. Authorities believe the girl is about 7 years old.``They were riding around in the yard,' he said. He did not have details of the accident.

Emergency services officials declined to release the child's name, and hospital officials declined to disclose the girl's condition. The girl was taken to the hospital by the Duke Life Flight emergency helicopter about 9 p.m.
