An Alamance County environmental group has been designated a Stream Watch organization by the state Department of Environment, Health and Natural Resources.

The group, the Haw River Chapter of the Sierra Club Stream Watch Group of the Cape Fear River Basin, will monitor water quality along the Haw River in Alamance County.Stream Watch groups care for streams and waterways by cleaning up the areas, monitoring water quality, building nature trails, educating the public, organizing recreational trips and compiling inventories of natural and historic features.

Under its Stream Watch program, the department furnishes materials and technical information on stream management, including water quality, stream flow, fisheries and water trails. The department's seven regional offices coordinate information and respond to problems.
