Detroit Pistons rookie Grant Hill said he decided to attend Duke instead of his childhood favorite Georgetown after an academic coordinator from Georgetown made him read aloud, according to a published report.

In the Dec. 16-18 issue of USA WEEKEND, the Reston, Va., native said he attended every Georgetown home game since 1983 and was interested in playing for John Thompson.During the recruiting process, Hill said he was asked to read aloud from a book by an academic coordinator.

``What does this show? This doesn't show my intelligence,' Hill said of the oral test. ``I was a little offended. So I erased Georgetown from the picture.'

USA WEEKEND said it was unable to get the university to comment on Hill's statement. Messages left with Georgetown's media relations office by The Associated Press were not answered late Friday.

USA WEEKEND is a weekly magazine published by Gannett Co. Inc.
