The North Carolina Restaurant Association has presented humanitarian awards to five members who were involved in the relief effort after Hurricane Hugo this past fall.
The association honored one individual and four companies this past week for their humanitarian responses to the disaster.Mike Kelly, operator of Kelly's Outer Banks Restaurant & Tavern and the Penguin Isle Soundside Grill & Bar, along with the Dare County Restaurant Association were honored.
With food donated by association members, Kelly and a select staff served 850 meals in Charleston, S.C., while standing in five inches of water.
