Lawyers for the trucker accused of disemboweling a woman and leaving her naked body in a wooded area in February will argue a defense of insanity, according to a motion filed this week in New Hanover County Superior Court.

Ronald Sheldon Thomas, 33, of Lewisburg, Tenn., is accused of first-degree murder and first-degree sex offense in the death of Talana Kreeger, 32, of Hampstead. Police found Kreeger's body Feb. 22.Thomas is awaiting trial without bond in New Hanover County Jail. The state will seek the death penalty. A trial date has not been set.

Thomas' court-appointed lawyers, William N. Mason and Brandon Tise, filed several motions Tuesday, among them a motion giving notice of their intent to offer insanity as a defense.

They also asked that the trial be moved outside New Hanover County because of pretrial publicity, or that jurors from another county be brought to Wilmington to hear the case.
