Being an Irish artist means carrying a lot of baggage, mostly having to do with being too soulful. But being Irish and having been in ``The Commitments'?
Fortunately for the Frames, the only thing they have in common with the Commitments is lead vocalist and guitarist Glen Hansard.``The press has this image of me as the one who betrayed his past,' says Hansard, ``and in a way I did because I wanted to get on with the future - the Frames are a better band.'
The Irish press has also had a hard time describing ``Another Love Song,' the Frames' debut album: ``raggle-taggle,' ``Pixies-like,' ``early Waterboys.' None of which suits Hansard or fully captures the music of this band.
Though he's no musical fan of the Commitments, Hansard still thinks that Ireland is tops in the music world right now. ``I think it's got something to do with the weather,' he says. ``In Ireland you can never depend on anything being one way or another, so you have to make your own entertainment.'
