LEXINGTON WOMAN KILLED IN CONSTRUCTION-ZONE WRECK\ HUSBAND INJURED

A 72-year-old Lexington woman was killed and her husband injured Friday afternoon when she accidently drove her car into a construction zone and then slid into an oncoming tractor trailer on N.C. 14 in Rockingham County, the Highway Patrol reported.

Sunshine A. Hall, of 1912 Southview Road, died in the wreck, which happened just under five miles south of Eden. Her husband, Hubert Hall, 75, a passenger, was in stable condition Friday night at Morehead Hospital in Eden.The wreck happened at 5:20 p.m. as Sunshine Hall was driving south on N.C. 14. She dropped off the right side of the road into a construction area, police said. She tried to jerk the car back into the road, but lost control as it slid down the road sideways and into the path of a northbound tractor trailer driven by Wayne McClellan of Charlotte. McClellan was not injured in the wreck.
