MAN HELD IN CONNECTION WITH SEVERAL BANK ROBBERIES

Winston-Salem police have arrested a man in connection with a string of bank robberies in Winston-Salem and a bank robbery in High Point.

Michael Oneil Wilson, 22, was arrested Thursday in Winston-Salem following a Crime Stoppers tip, Winston-Salem police said.Police had no permanent address for Wilson. He is being held in the Forsyth County Detention Center.

Wilson was charged with four counts of armed robbery of a bank in the four Winston-Salem bank robberies at NationsBank, 1819 Peace Haven Road, on May 31; Wachovia bank, 916 W. Fourth St., on June 19; Old North State Bank, 3802 Reynolda Road, on Oct. 1; and the First Union Bank, 101 S. Stratford Road on Oct. 16.

Wilson also will face federal charges in the Oct. 7 robbery of the bank in High Point.
