COLFAX — A 20-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed today when he rode his bicycle into the path of a tanker truck.
Remington Cox, 20, of Colfax, was riding south in the northbound lane of N.C. 68 near Leabourne Road about 4:15 a.m. today, said Trooper C.D. Knox with the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Cox was struck by a commercial truck driven by a 62-year-old commercial truck driver who works for a Virginia company, Knox said. The truck was traveling north N.C. 68.
The bicyclist died at the scene of the crash.
The 62-year-old truck driver will not be charged, according to the Highway Patrol.
“There are no contributing circumstances by the truck driver.” Knox said. He added that Cox was not wearing a helmet or a reflective clothing, and it is not clear why he crossed lanes into the path of the truck.

Remington Cox, 20, of Colfax, was riding his bike south in the northbound lane of N.C. 68 near Leabourne Road about 4:15 a.m. today, said Trooper C.D. Knox with the N.C. Highway Patrol.
A tanker truck from a Virginia company was going north on N.C. 68 at the same time when Cox rode his bicycle into the path of the truck, Knox said.
Cox died at the scene of the crash.
The 62-year-old truck driver will not be charged.

COLFAX — The N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating a wreck in which bicyclist was struck and killed early this morning.
Officials were called to N.C. 68 at Leabourne Road about 4:15 a.m. about a wreck, according to Highway Patrol communications. One person died in the collision.
A tractor trailer struck a male bicyclist, who was killed.
Other media outlets are reporting the bicyclist swerved in front of the tractor trailer's path.
