Three men are in jail in connection with the brutal beating death of an 84-year-old Ruffin man in September, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Investigators have filed first-degree murder charges against Kaleb Garrett Dunithan, 18, of 311 S. Washington St., Reidsville; Jacob Arthur Adams, 17, of 509 N. Washington Ave., Reidsville; and Nicholas Andrew Lowery, 18, of 2108 Lick Fork Creek Road, Ruffin.
Deputies were called to a Ruffin home early in the morning of Sept. 2 after receiving a call that 84-year-old Waverly Bourne had been assaulted with a baseball bat by two men wearing face masks.
Bourne told police that men wearing dark clothing surprised him in a hallway of his home at 2179 Lick Fork Creek Road. Bourne told police they beat him until he lost consciousness. It is unclear when or how they entered the home.
Bourne remained hospitalized until his death on Jan. 14, according to the release. Investigators believe Bourne died as a result of the injuries he sustained during the attack.
