HIGH POINT — A toddler accidentally shot and killed himself while with his dad on Saturday, police said today.

The 2-year-old boy, who police confirmed was Benson Jones, was at a house at 1301 Filbert Place at about 4:30 p.m. when he shot himself in the head.

Police Maj. Larry Casterline said the child was the only one in the house at the time of the shooting. It's unclear how he got the gun.

His father was on the porch at the time of the shooting. Casterline declined to say what the child's dad was doing when the shooting occurred.

Benson was taken to an area hospital, where he died a few hours later.

Police are still investigating the incident.
