GASTONIA — Authorities have charged a Gaston County couple with child abuse after a hospital coordinator noticed the baby had a number of broken bones.
Mount Holly Police Chief Don Roper said the baby's parents, 25-year-old William Timothy Walker Jr. and 19-year-old Carmen Leighann Holden both face felony charges. Holden is free on $50,000 bond, while Walker remains in the Gaston County jail under $150,000 bond. It's not known if either have an attorney.
The two were arrested last week.
A police affidavit says the child suffered a severe skull fracture, broken forearm, broken leg and broken clavicle. The couple said the baby fell off a couch on July 4, but social workers say the injuries occurred over a period of time.
