Police investigating bomb threat against Oak Hollow Mall

HIGH POINT — Police responded to a bomb threat Saturday at Oak Hollow Mall.

The threat, which came in about 9:30 a.m., was directed toward the Dillard’s store, police said. They did not find a bomb and no one was hurt.

The case is under investigation.

Haw River motorcyclist dies after hitting a car

A Haw River man died after his motorcycle crashed into a car on N.C. 119 in southeastern Alamance County on Sunday.

Elton Lee Gant Jr., 27, of 2403 Albert Circle, was traveling east on Jim Minor Road when he failed to stop for a stop sign and flashing red light, the Highway Patrol said.

Gant’s motorcycle hit the passenger side of a 2004 Ford Mustang traveling south on N.C. 119.

Vietnam vet sworn in as N.C. Bar Association head

ASHEVILLE — An Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War was sworn in Saturday as president of the N.C. Bar Association.

Mike Colombo is a partner in the Greenville firm of Colombo, Kitchin, Dunn and Ball.

He is the second association president from Greenville, according to a news release.

New Miss North Carolina promotes tumor research

Fayetteville’s Brooke McLaurin, a survivor of a brain tumor and two brain surgeries, has been crowned Miss North Carolina 2005.

McLaurin, 24, is a student of business administration at Fayetteville State University. She said she hopes to use her title to promote brain tumor awareness and research.

McLaurin will represent the state in September in the Miss America pageant.
