GREENSBORO — On July 1, Deena Hayes-Greene moves up from vice chair to chair of the Guilford County Board of Education.
Board member Wes Cashwell will be vice chairman.
In her role as vice chair, Hayes-Greene automatically takes over the top position to replace Chairman Alan Duncan, who is resigning effective June 30 due to the demands of his state-level leadership roles in education.
At the board’s meeting Thursday, board member Pat Tillman nominated Cashwell to be vice chair once Hayes-Greene moves into the chair’s role.
The vote passed 6-2, with board members Byron Gladden and T. Dianne Bellamy-Small voting against.
Although Hayes-Greene said she would have preferred to delay the vote until Duncan’s successor is appointed to the board, she voted in favor of Cashwell, and said she likes him and would be happy to work with him.
