JIMMY FRANKLIN CROSS Mr. Jimmy Franklin Cross, 55, of 5168 Blakeshire Road, died Tuesday, April 16, 1996, in the Hospice Unit of Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Cross' funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Forbis and Dick Funeral Service, 1118 North Elm Street. Interment will follow in Alamance Presbyterian Church Cemetery.Mr. Cross was born on June 24, 1940, in Randolph County and had lived in Greensboro since 1974. He was a member of the Baptist faith and was employed by Thomasville Furniture Company.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Patricia Dianne Cross of the home; five children, Frankie Cross of Franklinville, Kenneth Cross of Jamestown, Tommy Moretz of Julian, Wayne Moretz of High Point, and Dean Cross of the home; mother and stepfather, Hilda and Hersal Coward of Franklinville; a sister, Jettie Parrish of Julian; four grandchildren, Tommy Moretz, Jr. and Heather Moretz of Franklinville, Paige Cross and Julian Cross of Franklinville.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. tonight at Forbis and Dick Funeral Service, 1118 North Elm Street, and other times at the residence.

ESTHER SWING HEDRICK LEXINGTON - Esther Swing Hedrick, 94, of Lexington, died Tuesday, April 16, 1996.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hedrick's Grove United Church of Christ.

Visitation will be at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday in the church parlor.

FLORENCE H. GALLIMORE LEXINGTON - Florence H. Gallimore, 79, of Lexington, died Tuesday, April 16, 1996.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Jersey Baptist Church.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home.

JOHN DANIEL 'J.D.' EGGERS John Daniel 'J.D.' Eggers, 47, of 2511 Woodview Dr., died April 15, 1996, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Guilford Park Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Lakeview Memorial Park.

He was born in Watauga County, worked as a draftsman with The Basic Group, was a member of Guilford Park Presbyterian Church, was very active in the church, and was a member of the Greensboro Elks Lodge 602. He also served in Vietnam with the U.S. Marine Corps.

He is survived by wife, Linda Lawson Eggers of the home; daughters, Peyton Eggers and Traci Eggers, both of the home; parents, Clay and Martha Eggers of Boone; and sister, Lucy Eggers Church of Boone.

The family will receive friends at Forbis & Dick N. Elm Street Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

HOYT PERVIS EDWARDS Hoyt Pervis Edwards, 74, of 203 Kemp Road W., died April 15, 1996, at Wesley-Long Hospital.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 1996, at the First Moravian Church, 304 S. Elam Avenue. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park.

Mr. Edwards was a member of the First Moravian Church and the Odd Fellows. He loved his church and has held many positions, including Elder, Trustee and Head Usher. He had owned Edwards Seafood Co. before his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Westmoreland Edwards of the home; son and daughter-in-law, David Willard Edwards and Joan Johnstone Edwards of Greenville, S.C., Thomas Hoyt Edwards of Greensboro; stepdaughters, Katherine Highfill and Jill Pinto, both of Greensboro; sisters, Ruth Edwards Neal and Jeneil Edwards Feldes, both of Greensboro; brothers, Lawrence Oliver Edwards of High Point, S.D. 'Ray' Edwards of Greensboro, James Leon Edwards of Jamestown, and Rodney Allen Edwards of Trinity; grandchildren, David Willard Edwards, Jr., Patrick Andrew Edwards and Benjamin Johnstone Edwards, all of Greenville, S.C.

JUANITA VIRGINIA MURPHY JOHNSON KERNERSVILLE - Mrs. Juanita Virginia Murphy Johnson, 71, of 109 Claxton Dr., died Tuesday, April 16, 1996, at her residence.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Guilford Co., a daughter of Monroe. F. and Beulah Duncan Murphy. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired from Kroger after 30 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, and three brothers, Monroe T. Murphy, John Murphy, and Charles Murphy.

Surviving are her husband, Larry J. Johnson of the home; one brother, James C. Murphy of Oak Ridge.

The funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Kernersville Chapel by the Rev. Vernon Williams and the Rev. Larry Thompson. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

ELSIE TAYLOR PRATT EDEN - Elsie Taylor Pratt, 64, of 333 Garrett Rd., died Tuesday morning at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

No services will be held.

She was born in Kinston, N.C., was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist, was a veteran of the Korean War in which she served in the Air Force, and she was retired from AT&T Greensboro.

She is survived by her husband, Jesse Phillip Pratt of the home; daughter, Linda Pratt Rives of Greensboro; sons, Jesse P. Pratt, III of Greensboro, David M. Pratt of Climax; father, Otis Taylor of Kinston; sisters, Susie Yuravich, Eloise Dawson, both of Kinston, Margaret Wylie of Mt. Holly, N.J.; and three granddaughters.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Fair Funeral Home, and other times at 333 Garrett Rd., Eden.

ELSIE BABER N. CHARLESTON, S.C. - Mrs. Elsie Baber, 78, of 4373 Purdue Drive, N. Charleston, S.C., died Monday, April 15, 1996, at her residence.

BRIGHT METIERE SHEPHARD GIBSONVILLE - Mr. Bright Metiere Shephard, 89, of 6045 Carmon Road, died Monday, April 15, 1996, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Dr. Clyde Christmas, and the Rev. James Auman of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church will officiate.

Mr. Shephard was a native of Thomasville County, and was a resident of Guilford County for 85 years. He was the son of the late Walter and Lucy Mae Hornady Shephard, and the husband of the late Hattie Brown Shephard who died August 24, 1995. They were married for 66 years. Mr. Shephard was a farmer and master craftsman in carpentry, and a member of Peace Lutheran Church.

He is survived by two sons, John R. Shephard and Donald R. Shephard, both of Gibsonville; daughter, Mrs. Bessie S. Greeson of Gibsonville; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Bartlett Funeral Home in Gibsonville, and other times at the residence.

KATHY WHITAKER CHEEK RANDLEMAN - Kathy Whitaker Cheek, 45, of 6602 Holder-Inman Road, died Monday, April 15, 1996, at her home.

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 1996, at Randolph Memorial Park and will be officiated by the Rev. H.O. Jenkins.

She was a native of Guilford County and was much loved by her family

She is survived by her husband, Tony Cheek of Randleman; daughter, Mrs. Robin New Hardee of Browns Summit; sisters, Mrs. Pat Beane of Asheboro, Mrs. Rita Teague of Greensboro, Mrs. Martha Reagan of Level Cross, Miss Samatha Whitaker of Asheboro, Miss Teresa Smith of Greensboro; brothers, Billy Whitaker and Larry Whitaker, both of Asheboro; and one grandchild.

MICHEAL LEE MCCLAIN, JR Micheal Lee McClain, Jr. of 1505 Joyce Street, died Monday, April 15, 1996, at Moses Cone Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at New Garden of Prayer Baptist Church. Interment will be at Lakeview Memorial Park.

He was born in Radford, Va., worked for United Taxi Association, and was in the U.S. Coast Guard.

He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn B. McClain of the home; son, Micheal Lee McClain of the home; stepson, Jackie White of Greensboro; daughters, Courtney Kittreil of the home, Alice Benbow of Winston-Salem; stepdaughter, Annie White of Greensboro; aunt, Future Braddy of Greensboro; two brothers, Charles T. McClain of Martinsville, Va. and Robert B. McClain of Roanoke, Va.; three sisters, Barbara J. Dowz of Christianburg, Va., Judy Stockton of Martinsville, Va., Cynthia Sifford of Charlotte; five grandchildren; and maternal grandmother, Reva Turner of Elliston, Va.

BLANCHE MARTIN BISCOE - Blanche Martin, 90, formerly of Biscoe, died April 16, 1996, at Autumn Care of Biscoe.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 1996, at Macedonia Presbyterian Church, Biscoe, and will be conducted by the Rev. Graham Fowler ad the Rev. Jim Williams. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, a retiree of Spring Mills and a member of Macedonia Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by two sister, Jessie Miller and Pearl Stewart, both of Biscoe; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, N.A. Martin; mother, Mary Jane Lamonds Martin; brother, Dewey Martin; sisters, Molly Martin and Ruth Jackson.

ROLAND H. (RONNIE) HAYES Roland H. (Ronnie) Hayes, 47, of 109 Millikin Street, died April 16, 1996, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

JEWEL PRESTON FULTON WALNUT COVE - Mrs. Jewel Preston Fulton, 94, of Presbyterian Home in High Point, died April 16, 1996.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. April 18 at Christ Episcopal Church in Walnut Cove, followed by burial in Walnut Cove Cemetery.

Mrs. Fulton was a longtime resident of Walnut Cove and member of Christ Episcopal Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Fulton.

She is survived by her son, Mr. Paul Fulton, Jr. of Winston-Salem and Chapel Hill; her daughter, Mrs. Aurelia Fulton Stafford of Greensboro; grandchildren, Susan Stafford Kelly, Janie Stafford Sellers, Aurelia Stafford Monk, Nella Fulton Timmons, Paul Fulton, III and Elizabeth Fulton Saye; ten great-grandchildren.

WILLIE JOYCE MAYODAN - Mr. Willie Watt Joyce, 71, of 405 South 6th Avenue, died Tuesday, April 16, 1996, at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Ray Funeral Home Chapel in Madison. Burial will be in the Mayodan Municipal Cemetery.

Mr. Joyce was a native of Stokes County and had resided in Mayodan for the past 30 years. He was a retired employee of Lester Lumber Company, and a member of the Lawsonville Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Dovey Hall Joyce and is survived by his wife, Bessie Clark Joyce of Mayodan; children, Shirley Williams of Mayodan, Rosanna (Ann) McDaniel of Eden, Willie Ray Joyce of Fieldale, Va., J.D. Joyce of San Francisco, Calif.; sisters, Hallie Collins of Stuart, Va., Eva Martin of Sandy Ridge, Martha Boyd of Collinsville, Va., Jettie Atkins and Lucy Joyce, both of Lawsonville; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at Ray Funeral Home and all other times at the home of his wife at 305 E. Oakwood Manor in Mayodan.

MARY LOUISE SHELTON PLUMMER STOKESDALE - Mrs. Mary Louise Plummer, 67, of 331 Mt. Zion Church Road, died Monday, April 15, 1996, at Wesley Long Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with the burial in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Plummer, a native of Stokes County, was retired from Rolane's and was a member of Eden United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel H. Plummer.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Eurika Plummer, Charles and Cathy Plummer of Stokesdale, Mark and Pam Plummer of Mayodan, Ricky Plummer and Maxine Hicks of Madison; daughters and sons-in-law, Karran and William Lemons of Stoneville, Sharran and Ronnie Anderson of Stokesdale; brothers, Ted and Benny Shelton of Madison; sister, Weyburn Tiller of Hillsborough; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

RICHARD GENE (DOC) BOARD TRINITY - Mr. Richard Gene (Doc) Board, 59, of 4132 Skyview Court, died April 16, 1996, at his residence.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Heights Wesleyan Church. Burial will be at Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

IRENE G. HOOD Mrs. Irene Mildred Grohmann Hood, 83, of Meadowbrook Terrace, formerly of 101 Bethel Spring Dale, died Monday at Wesley Long Hospital.

Interment will be at 2:15 p.m. Thursday at Westminster Gardens Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Starmount Presbyterian Church, 3501 West Market Street.

She was a native of Nashville, Ill., daughter of George E. Grohmann and Ida Johnson Grohmann. She graduated from Nashville High School in 1930, and attended Brown's Business College, Vogue School of Art in Chicago, and Southern Illinois State Teachers College (now Southern Illinois University). She worked for the U.S. Treasury Department, and Fifth Army Headquarters during World War II.

She was an active member of Guilford Chapter 141 of the Order of the Eastern Star, and Greensboro Women's Club. She was also a member of Starmount Presbyterian Church, where she was a charter member, as well as charter member of the Women of the Church where she served as treasurer for many years and chaired many committees and in 1974 was awarded an honorary life membership.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Hood, Jr.

She is survived by her son, Robert H. Hood, III, Attorney, of Graham.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, 515 N. Elm Street.

DOLORES B. ROBERTS Dolores B. Roberts, 63, of 2428 Merritt Drive, died Monday, April 15, 1996, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Chicago, Ill., she was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Louann Gaines of Pleasant Garden; son Tam Roberts, Jr. of Greensboro; brothers, Chester Bolda of Crestwood, Ill., Joe Bolda of Portage, Ind., Leo Bolda of Sayner, Wis.; and grandson, Michael Roberts.

The family will receive friends 7-9 Wednesday at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel and other times at the residence of Tam Roberts, 1302 Burnetts Chapel Road.

REV. JOHN THOMAS EDWARDS The Rev. John Thomas Edwards, 90, of Greensboro, died Tuesday, April 16, 1996, at Guilford Health Care Center.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Gorman Baptist Church in Durham. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Henderson.

Reverend Edwards served several churches in the Tar River Association, also Gorman Baptist Church in Durham, Eller Memorial Baptist Church in Greensboro, and Flat Rock Baptist Church in Hamptonville. He held several positions in each of his Associations. Reverend Edwards was a graduate of Campbell University and Wake Forest University.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Woodlief Edwards of the home; sons, Brantley Edwards of Greensboro, Tom Edwards of Buies Creek; daughter, Johnette Church of Kernersville; brothers, Carl Edwards of Raleigh, Talmadge Edwards of Franklinton, T. W. Edwards of Fayetteville, Lawrence Edwards of Salisbury; sisters, Rachel Ellington of Chesapeake, Va., Dorothy Payne of Bracey, Va.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. tonight at Forbis and Dick Funeral Service, 1118 North Elm Street.

BOBBY JOE HARRIS TROY - Bobby Joe Harris, 63, of McLean Road, died Tuesday, April 16, 1996, at his residence.

The graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 1996, at Long Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Troy, and will be conducted by the Rev. Larry Beaver.

Mr. Harris was a native of Montgomery Co., a retired supervisor of Capel Mills, and a member of the Long Hill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his son, Steve Harris of Burlington; sisters, Mrs. Frances Hancock of Biscoe, Mrs. Clara Reynolds of Pensicola, Fla.; brother, Larry Hancock of Troy; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He formerly owned and operated Ben's Garage in Greensboro.

JULIUS C. COBLE, JR. GRAHAM - Mr. Julius Caesar Coble, Jr., 70, of 303 Hardin St., Burlington, died Monday, April 15, 1996, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 1996, at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham. Burial will be at Alamance Memorial Park.

GLEN DOLEN LAWRENCE HENDERSON - Rev. Glen Dolen Lawrence, Sr., 73, a resident of 1344 King Street, died Tuesday morning at the VA Hospital in Durham.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of the J.M. White Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

CHARLIE MANN SILER CITY - Mr. Charlie Lewis Mann, 57, of 900 West Dolphin Street, and a former resident of Graham, died Monday, April 15, 1996, at Country Forest Manor.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday at McClure Funeral Home in Graham. Burial will be at Graham Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Graham 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, and other times at the residence of Mrs. Margie Carroll, 1331 Parker Street, Burlington.
