VIRGINIA FERGUSON KERNODLE
BROWNS SUMMIT Virginia Ferguson Kernodle, 93, of 5115 N.C. 150 East, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Moses Cone Hospital. The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Monticello United Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Gary Owens. Burial will be held in Apples Chapel Christian Church Cemetery.
She was raised in Murfeesboro and graduated from East Carolina Teachers College. She came to Guilford County, in 1928, and taught for three years at Monticello School and five years at Busick Elementary School. In 1931, she married Jennings Kernodle and they lived and worked the family farm in Monticello for many years. Believing that raising a family (Alfred, Jesse Ann and Kenny) was a full time job, Virginia did not teach after Alfred was born. She however continued to work hard in her community and church. She always showed genuine concern for her family, neighbors and friends, in her quiet humble way. She was a faithful servant of God at Monticello Church, since the fall of 1931.
Survivors are her daughter, Jessie Ann Kernodle Wood of Browns Summit; sons and daughters-in-law, Alfred Jennings and Carolyn Kernodle of Browns Summit, Kenneth Cobb and Peggy Kernodle of Durham; sister, William Ferguson of Whiteville; brothers, William Ferguson of Huntington, Md., Fenton Ferguson of Murfeesboro and Joseph Ferguson of Raleigh; four grandchildren, Andrew Kernodle, Wendy and husband, Neil McKinney, David Kernodle, Ashley Kernodle; and two step-grandsons, Bob Wood and Bart Wood.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Service and other times at the residence.
Memorials may be made to Monticello United Church of Christ, 5001 N.C. 150 East, Browns Summit, N.C. 27214.
