Leadership of the 1-A boys' classification continued to be the hardest spot to hold as Orrum became its fourth No. 1 in the last four editions of the News & Record Prep Basketball Rankings.
Orrum (16-2) stretched its winning steak to 11 games and moved in front of North Duplin. North's 75-68 loss to No. 10 Midway Friday broke its 27-game Carolina Conference winning streak and dropped it from first to fifth.Havelock nudged Foard out of its season-long lead in 3-A girls. Two Coastal Conference wins plus a defeat of Class 4-A Kinston moved the Rams (17-0) from second to first. Foard (17-2) dropped to second.
The status quo held throughout most of the rankings as the No. 1 teams in the six other classifications remained the same and 71 of the 80 teams ranked last week returned to the top 10.
Tarboro's girls made a notable first entry into the rankings. The Colonial Conference leader debuted seventh in 3-A.
