REIDSVILLE - Miriam Hyman Balsley, 79, of 1007 Oak Crest Drive died Monday at Wesley Long Community Hospital.Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Main Street United Methodist Church, of which she was a member. Burial will be in Greenview Cemetery.

A native of Florence County, S.C., she was a member of Hoe and Hope Garden Club and a retired employee of American Tobacco Co.

Surviving is her sister, Gladys H. Nelson of Kannapolis.

The family will be at Citty Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. today.

STALEY - Robert Lee Brooks, 49, of Route 1 died Monday at Duke Medical Center.

Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Olivers Chapel AME Zion Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Chatham County, he was a member of the Masonic Oakland Lodge 501, chairman of the Usher Board and a member of the Trustee Board and the choir at his church, and a supervisor for Ramtex Textile Mills.

Surviving are wife, Mrs. Shirley Williams Brooks; daughters, Miss Kizzie Shoffner of the home, Miss Shirlene Shoffner, Mrs. Pam Lucas, both of Siler City, Miss Mary Petena Shoffner of Liberty; sons, Michael Shoffner, Bernard Shoffner, both of Asheboro, Randy Eric Shoffner of Burlington, Spec. 4 Rodney Lee Brooks of Germany; mother, Mrs. Allean Brooks Emerson, of Staley; stepfather, Gather Emerson of Liberty; sisters, Mrs. Clementine Farrar, Mrs. Janice Brooks, both of Staley, Mrs. Geraldine Gray of Bennett, Mrs. Geneva Dark, Mrs. Pauline Brooks, both of New York, Mrs. Vera Andrew of Ramseur; brothers, the Rev. Freeman Brooks of Sanford, James A. Brooks, Alfred Brooks, Howard Brooks, Gather Ray Emerson, all of Staley; 11 grandchildren.

MRS. MYRTLE BURTON

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Myrtle Louise Burton, 64, of 317 Richmond Ave. died Tuesday at UNC Hospitals.

Arrangements are incomplete at Sharpe Funeral Home.

A native of Caswell County, she was a retired employee of Cone Mills and a member of Allens Chapel Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Anthony Deandr'e Burton of Orlando, Fla., Elvis Lee Burton of Burlington; brother, Johnny Graves of Burlington; sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Graves of Brown Summit, Mrs. Mildred Miles of Burlington, Mrs. Judy Daye of Mebane; four grandchildren.\

WILSON CLODFELTER

THOMASVILLE - Wilson Wood Clodfelter, 73, of Route 2 (Cunningham Brick Road) died Monday at his home.

Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Zion Wesleyan Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Davidson County, he was a retired employee of Kaby Hosiery Mill.

Surviving are wife, Edna Grubb Clodfelter; sons, Jimmy W. Clodfelter, Johnny L. Clodfelter Sr., Frankie D. Clodfelter, all of Thomasville; sisters, Mrs. Hazel Grubb, Mrs. Allie Hughes, Mrs. Mary Nifong, all of Thomasville; brothers, Wade Clodfelter, Phares Clodfelter, both of Thomasville; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

EAGLE SPRINGS - Melvin Lee Cole, 47, of Eagle Springs died Monday at Moore Regional Hospital.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Zion Grove AME Zion Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in Zion Grove Cemetery.

He was a native of Eagle Springs.

Surviving are wife, Dorothy B. Cole; sons, Charles Brown of Fort Stewart, Ga., Melvin D. Brown of the home; daughters, Yolanda Brown, Angela Brown, Christy Brown, all of the home; sister, Mrs. Wanda Faye Breeding of Louisville, Ky.; brothers, Steward Cole, Dwight Cole, Steve Cole, all of Eagle Springs, Quinzel Cole of West End, Adolph Cole, Meshack Cole, both of South Fallsburgh, N.Y.

EDWARD DEMBNICKI

SOUTHERN PINES - Edward Francis Dembnicki, 69, of 101 Knollwood Village died Tuesday at Moore Regional Hospital.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in Pinebluff Cemetery.

He was a graduate of Long Island A&T in Farmdale, N.Y., and the University of Georgia. He was a golf course superintendent, past president of the Carolinas Golf Course Superintendent's Association, a member of the US Golf Association, Turf Section, national director of the Golf Course Superintendent's of America, and an honorary member of Turfgrass Council of North Carolina. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are wife, Mrs. Catherine Campbell Dembnicki; sons, Paul Dembnicki of Gaithersburg, Md., Steven Dembnicki, Jack Dembnicki, both of Southern Pines; mother, Mrs. Edna K. Dembnicki of Mahwah, N.J.; brothers, Harry Dee of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., John Dembnicki of New City, N.Y.; sister, Mrs. Edna D. Messenger of Upper Saddle River, N.J.; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Powell Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. today. Rosary service will be at the funeral home at 7 p.m. today.

LINWOOD - Lawrence Eugene Jacobs, 61, of Route 2 died Monday at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Summersett Funeral Home. Military burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery.

A native of Rowan County, he was a retired Army career man and a retired employee of AFFES Accounting Service.

Surviving are wife, Rosemarie Klinkahmmer Jacobs; brothers, Amos W. Jacobs of Linwood, Cletus Jacobs of Fruitland Park, Fla., Bill Jacobs of Long Beach; sister, Mrs. Ann Adams of Granite Quarry.

MEBANE - The Rev. Lacy Milton Johnson, 81, of 1015 Airport Road, Apt. 110, died Monday at Alamance County Hospital.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at McClure Funeral Home in Graham. Burial will be in Carolina Community Cemetery.

A native of Chatham County, he was a retired Holiness minister and a member of Full Gospel Tabernacle.

Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Janie Medley of Haw River, Mrs. Shirley Morris of LaGrange, Ga.; sons, Herman Johnson of Haw River, Harold Johnson of Efland; sister, Mrs. Annabelle Blaylock of Prospect Hill; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

RUTH LITTLE

BURLINGTON - Ruth Walter Little, 87, of 1560 Albright Ave. died Monday at Alamance County Hospital.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Pine Hill Cemetery.

A native of Mecklenburg County, she was a retired employee of Glen Raven Mills and a Baptist.

Surviving are sons, James S. Little of Swepsonville, Leland Curtis Little of Burlington; sisters, Mrs. Gaynell Stone of Whitsett, Mrs. Dove Aycock of Danville, Va.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

MRS. LAURA MOORE

CANDOR - Mrs. Laura Lee Pratt Moore, 86, of Candor died Monday at Moore Regional Hospital.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mountain Grove Church, of which she was a member. Burial will be in Flat Rock Cemetery in Morven.

She was a native of Morven.

Surviving are daughters, Maggie Moore, Mary Little, both of the home, Elizabeth Pratt of Morven, Martha Higgins of Baltimore; son, James Pratt of Morven; sister, Mable Brooks of Baltimore; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

VIRGILE MORICLE

BURLINGTON - Virgile Abernathy Moricle, 72, of 719 Durham St. died Tuesday at Alamance County Hospital.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at McClure Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

A native of Reidsville, he was a self-employed paint contractor.

Surviving are wife, Mrs. Irene Oster Moricle; brothers, Irvin Moricle, Ellis Moricle, both of Burlington, Bill Moricle of Gibsonville; sister, Mrs. Edna Brown of Greenville, Miss.

BURLINGTON - Robert Mitchell Ray, 45, of Country Club Mobile Home Park died Monday at UNC Hospitals.

There will be no funeral

A native of Alamance County, he was an artist and a former employee of Food Lion.

Surviving are mother and stepfather, Vernon and Nelmer Pendergraph Bunn of Haw River; brothers, Donald Glen Ray of Haw River, Roger Ray of Snow Camp; half brother, Jimmy Rogers of Mebane; half sister, Mrs. Linda Rogers Warren of Burlington.

JOHN ROBERTSON

EDEN - John Samuel Robertson, 98, of 506 Patrick St. died Monday at Morehead Memorial Hospital.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Leaksville United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in Lawson Cemetery.

A native of Person County, he was the founder of Leaksville Publishing Co. and the retired publisher of the Leaksville News which became the Eden Daily News.

He was a former trustee and board member of his church, a director of NCNB, and a charter member of the Leaksville-Spray Lions Club, now Eden Lions Club.

Surviving are son, Richard H. Robertson Sr. of Eden; sister, Mrs. Catherine R. Cox of the home; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Fair Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. today, other times at the residence of his son, 522 S. Hamilton St.

A native of Chatham County, she was a homemaker.

Surviving are sisters, Mrs. Bessie Mae Thompson of Chapel Hill, Mrs. Susie Burroughs of Henderson; brothers, R.D. Smith, Tommie Smith, both of Chapel Hill, Frank Smith of Columbia, S.C.

CARBONTON - Mrs. Elaine Woolard Rollins, 67, of 123 Woolard Road died Monday at her home.

Surviving are husband, Silas Rollins; daughter, DiAnne Rollins of Gloucester Point, Va.; brothers, John Kemry Woolard, Clingman Woolard, both of Carbonton; sisters, Elise Tally, Alice Wilkins, both of Carbonton, Joyce Hoffman of California.

She was a native of Durham County.

GRAHAM - John Lecell Stanford Sr., 64, of 107 Home Ave. died Tuesday at the VA Hospital in Durham.

Funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

A native of Walker County, Ala., he was a general contractor, a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of Friendly Lane Baptist Church, the DAV, and the Walter B. Ellis American Legion Post .

Surviving are wife, Mrs. Mozelle Lynn Stanford; daughters, Mrs. Connie Workman of Burlington, Mrs. Terry Horner of Graham, Miss Jeanne Stanford of Gibsonville; son, John L. Stanford Jr. of Atlanta; mother, Mrs. Nellie Parker Stanford of Graham; sisters, Mrs. Eunice Coble, Mrs. Dorothy Odgers, Mrs. Eloise Andrews, all of Burlington; five grandchildren.

MEBANE - Mrs. Luisa Arruda Teixeira, 61, of 3610 North N.C. 119 died Monday at Duke Medical Center in Durham.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, of which she was a member. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

A native of Azores St. Michaels, Portugal, she was a former employee of Quacker Fabric Textiles in Fall River, Mass. and a member of Our Lady of Carmen.

Surviving are husband, Liberal Manuel Teixeira; son, Michael Teixeira of the home; sister, Mrs. Hilda Amaral of Summerset, Mass.; brothers, Manuel Melo of Fall River, Mass., Agustinho Melo of Alberta, Canada, Joaquim Melo of Venezuela.

The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home in Burlington 7-9 p.m. today, other times at the residence. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home at 8 p.m. today.

SALISBURY - Mrs. Vallie M. Thomason, 78, of 165 E. Ridge Road died Tuesday at Rowan Memorial Hospital.

Graveside service will be at 4 p.m. today in City Memorial Park.

A native of Linwood, she was a former employee of Purcells Clothing Store.

Surviving are husband, Joe Thomason; son, Robert M. Shoaf of Salisbury; sister, Mae Rary of Salisbury; two grandchildren.

A native of Alamance County, he was a retired employee of Burlington Industries and an Army veteran.

Surviving are stepson, R. Jennings Helm of Greensboro; sister, Mrs. Mabel Helig of Orlando, Fla.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

MRS. ALICE WARRICK

LONG BEACH - Alice Rosalind Warrick, 74, of 133 NW Second St., formerly of Greensboro, died Tuesday at Britthaven of Wrightsville in Wilmington.

Graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro.

A native of Bedford, Va., she was an officer of Oak Island Women of the Moose and an Episcopalian.

Surviving are husband, Richard O. Warrick; son, Dickie Warrick of Long Beach; daughter, Mrs. Beverly Winters of Greensboro; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

WINSTON-SALEM - Charles Carroll West, 82, of 3701 Derbyshire Road died Tuesday at Blumenthal Jewish Home.

A native of Philadelphia, he was a retired employee of Western Electric Co., an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are wife, Mrs. Opal Davis West; daughter, Mrs. Phyllis West Dadisman of Greensboro; brother, Leslie T. West of Belmont; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Voglers Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

MOUNT GILEAD - Mrs. Gladys Cooke Wilder, 96, of North Main Street died Monday at Pines Nursing Home in Dillon, S.C.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, of which she was a member. Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery.

She was a native of Mount Gilead.

Surviving are sons, James Herbert Wilder of Bradenton, Fla., Bob Wilder of Dillon, S.C., David Wilder of Mount Gilead; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

MRS. ETHEL WOOD

SALISBURY - Mrs. Ethel E. Wood, 87, of the Salisbury Unit of the N.C. Lutheran Nursing Home died Monday at the home.

Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. today in Chestnut Hill Cemetery.

A native of Gold Hill, she was a member of First United Methodist Church, the retired owner and operator of Eller-Wood Florist, and a member and former secretary-treasurer of the Southern Retail Florist Association.

Surviving are sons, James D. Wood of Granite Quarry, Otis T. Wood of Marshalltown, Iowa; brother, R. Vance Eller of Salisbury; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Dakota Stevens, 27, was found unresponsive but breathing inside a holding cell about 4:15 p.m. on Monday, the Guilford County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Detention and medical staff started life-saving measures and EMS arrived about 4:25 p.m. to take Stevens to High Point Medical Center. He was later transferred to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem where he died about 4:10 a.m. Tuesday, the sheriff's office said.
