The mustachioed cowboy, quick to draw his six-shooter, is the mascot at Oklahoma State University. And the University of Wyoming. And also New Mexico State University.Whoa now, say the folks at Oklahoma State, who claim to have the legal and historical rights to the menacing cowboy.
``He's ours,' said Judy Barnard, an assistant in Oklahoma State's legal office. ``We've got the trademark.'
Oklahoma State filed a trademark application in September 1989, but that was 11 days after Wyoming filed one.
Trademark rights were granted first to Oklahoma State, which since has filed with the U.S. patent office a notice of opposition against Wyoming.
A spokesman at the University of Wyoming said the school was working out an agreement.
