An 8-year-old boy died Tuesday afternoon after the car he was riding in struck a tractor-trailer on Richardson Drive.

Shane Alex Crigler of 124 South Fork Drive in Reidsville was killed in the 4 p.m. accident. He was riding in a Mustang driven by his stepsister, Tiffany Rae Jordan, 17. Jordan was taken to Annie Penn Hospital in Reidsville where she was treated and released.Reidsville Police Chief Matt Lojko said the accident happened when the Mustang, which was traveling south on Sherwood Street, entered the Richardson Drive intersection and struck a tractor-trailer.

The car went underneath the tractor-trailer, Lojko said.

The truck driver, Charles A. Harney of Paris, Ky., was not injured. Shane was wearing a seatbelt, but it was unclear Tuesday whether Jordan and Harney were wearing seatbelts. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the accident.

Reidsville police are investigating and have not determined who was at fault in the accident. They intend to question several witnesses Tuesday, Lojko said.
