ASTANA, Kazakhstan— High Point native Heather Richardson finished second in both the 500-and 1,000-meter races Saturday at the ISU World Sprint Speed-skating Championships.
U.S. teammate Brittany Bowe won both races, finishing the 500 in 37.59 seconds followed by Richardson in 37.87.
In the 1,000 meters, Bowe covered the distance in 1:14.10 while Richardson needed 1:15.03.
Bowe leads the point standings with 74.640, and Richardson is second at 75.385. The two are scheduled to be the final pair to race in today's 500-meter event.
In the men's competition, Russia's Pavel Kulizhnikov won the 500 meters in 34.56, followed by Michel Mulder of the Netherlands in 34.84. Hein Otterspeer of the Netherlands won the 1,000 race in 1:08.93, followed by Germany's Nico Ihle in 1:09.10.
