ROBBER ESCAPES FROM PRISON

Norman Ray Bishop, sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for robbery with a dangerous weapon and two counts of assault, escaped from the Forsyth Correctional Center Tuesday, prison officials said.

Bishop, 36, of Winston-Salem, climbed the fence of the minimum security prison about 6 a.m., said Bill Poston, a spokesman for the state Department of Correction.Bishop was admitted into the state prison system Dec. 11, 1975. He has been eligible for parole since September 1982.
