Recently, the people of Greensboro and Guilford County joined hands with the first delegation from Greensboro's sister city in Russia, Chirchik, and strengthened the friendship between our two cities and two countries.
Many people and organizations made this historic visit not only possible but a successful reality. Several merit special recognition: Betty and Joe Mullin, whose peacemaking has long been an inspiration, and Mayor Vic Nussbaum who traveled to Chirchik last year and laid the groundwork for this visit. Kay and Sidney Stern entertained the delegation and local citizens and numerous organizations opened their doors for tours.Others who contributed their time and products are: Varnell Moore and Bill Childress of Wrangler; Doug Galyon of Guilford Mills; R.L. Cox of Kayser-Roth; Mary Schott of the Greensboro Jaycees; Jim Burtner of Cone Mills; Doug Stewart of the Greensboro Hornets; Matthew Pappas of Tobacco USA; Mike Haley of McDonald's; Bill Moore and Gayle Fripp of the Greensboro Historical Museum and Betsy Johnson of Guilford College.
The group effort and wonderful experience it produced renew again my sense of good fortune in being a Guilford County resident. Susan W. Dorn Browns Summit
