SBI DROPS GOFORTH CASE

District Attorney Carl Fox said Tuesday he had dropped a request that the State Bureau of Investigation look into allegations of financial wrongdoing made against the late J.P. Goforth.

Goforth, a prominent Chapel Hill real estate developer, was found dead at his home Saturday afternoon, one day after a news conference at which Fox announced he would ask the SBI to investigate Goforth's business affairs.The death was ruled a suicide Monday by Dr. William Oliver, Orange County medical examiner.
