Students from Greensboro and Guilford County are among junior and senior high school art students whose works have been selected for merit awards in the 34th Scholastic Art Awards Program.

A jury of artists and art educators picked the winners from 2,400 student works submitted by art teachers from schools in a 32-country area of the Central Piedmont. The judging took place at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, which sponsors the program with WFMY (Channel 2) of Greensboro.The winners' show begins at 2 p.m. Sunday with an awards ceremony and reception in Cone Ballroom of Elliott University Center. The exhibit will be on view for the remainder of February.

Top-ranked Gold Key winners, announced earlier, will exhibit their pieces in the McIver Building Gallery. Silver Medallion certificate of merit works will be in Elliott Center Gallery. After the exhibit closes, Gold Key art will go to New York City for national judging sponsored by Scholastic Inc.

Silver Medallion certificate of merit winners are: Greensboro - Chris Olsefski, Brian Williams of Smith High School; Adrienne Cole of Greensboro Day School; Jennifer Barber, B. Elliott Hundley and Caroline Smith of Grimsley High School; Oscar Gibson of Dudley High School.

Also: Corrie Richardson, Kate Roskelly and Jessica Sawyer of Kiser Middle School; Sara Fletcher of Mendenhall Middle School; Chris Olsefski, Chris T. Merkel, Tracey Tebow and Tammie Wilson of Weaver Education Center; Melody Bodkin, Gretchen Carpenter, Thomas Garcia and Trent Steele of Southeast Guilford High School; Maureen Corcoran of Page High School; Warren Huntsman of Western Guilford High School.

Jamestown - Dan Parrish of Ragsdale High School; Merry Jensen, Darren Key and Miranda Leed of Jamestown Middle School.

Certificate of merit winners are: Greensboro -Jennifer Falkowitz and Adrian Milton of Smith High School; Nicholas Brown, Lise Conner, Kendall Eiler, Mary Ryan Hannon, Amelia Hummel, Jennifer Cornet, Fonnie Heidenhain and Joana Lobo of Greensboro Day School; Smith Adams, Woodie Belk (2 certificates), Kristen K. McGinnis (2) and Laura Weekland (4) of Grimsley High School; Brandon Breeze and Randy L. White of Dudley High School.
