GREENSBORO — Guilford County residents should soon get to weigh in on the issue of having uniformed police officers in schools.
Analysis shows Guilford County Schools not only has a record high graduation rate, but also is preparing students for college.
There is a difference of about 36 percentage points between the overall performance of black students and white students as measured by state standardized tests.
For about 260 students, Newcomers School in Greensboro is a safe haven where they can learn English and adjust to life in a new country. But they can only stay there one year before moving on to a regular school. The federal Office of Civil Rights considers Newcomers a segregated school. Many say a year is not enough time.
