The Cumberland County sheriff's department says it has issued more than the usual number of gun permits since the deployment of Fort Bragg troops to Saudi Arabia.
Sgt. Hershall Barber says 690 permits were authorized last month, compared with 490 in August last year. He said guns are being purchased for wives being left behind by their husbands.``We don't worry so much about the military person because they get training,' Barber says. ``It's whether or not the persons they're getting these handguns for have the training. Does that wife have the proper training?'
