GREENSBORO — A goal each by Nick Thompson, Danny Thompson and Josh Sanders, along with a pair of assists by Geoff Pezon, helped Messiah College advance to its sixth NCAA Division III national men’s soccer championship since the 2000 season with a 3-0 victory over Loras College. Later in the day, the Messiah women matched their men with a 3-0 win over William Smith. The games were played at Macpherson Stadium at Bryan Park.
STEVENS INSTITUTE 4, AMHERST 1: A pair of Terrence Johnson goals paved the way for Stevens Institute of Technology’s first appearance in the championship.
WOMEN
MESSIAH 3, WILLIAM SMITH 0: Brindley Beckwith halted one shot in goal to lead Messiah College to its third shutout victory of the tournament. The Falcons (21-0-2) hope to win their second national crown since 2005.
WHEATON 3, WILLIAMS 1: Ingrid Erickson had eight saves to lead Wheaton past Williams. Kari Klynstra, Maria Della Torre and Taryne Lee scored goals for Wheaton.
