STUDENTS CHOSEN FOR BANDS

Twenty-three students in the High Point school system have been chosen for the Central District All-State Bands, according to Alan Parker, band director for Central High School.

The students, representing three High Point schools, auditioned with 1,000 students in the district for a spot on the prestigious junior and senior high bands. Students were selected based on scale, solo and sight reading scores.Students selected from Ferndale Middle School are Jennifer Kaley, Crystal Soles, Robert Mitchell and Ben Cox.

Griffin Middle School band members are Laura Turner, Sabrina Tillman, Brian Cheresnowsky, Bryan Harrelson, Roosevelt Williams, Jennie Bowman, Kyle Odom, Ben Erdin and Jason Welch.

Ten students from High Point Central High School made the bands. They are Stephanie Bell, Michael Cook, Barton Dyson, Robin Johnson, David Kropf, Karen Kropf, David Panz, Jonathan Panz, Audrey Odom and Adam Oldham.

Selected students will attend three-day clinics to help further hone their musical skills. Each clinic ends with a free public performance. The Junior High Band clinic will be held Feb. 16 to 18 at Eastern Alamance High School. The concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Feb. 18 at Eastern Alamance.

The Senior High Band clinic starts Friday at Ragsdale High and concludes Sunday with a public performance at 3 p.m.
