President Lee Teng-hui was re-elected Wednesday by aging lawmakers who have not faced voters in more than 40 years, while thousands of students demanding direct presidential elections protested for a sixth day.
Student representatives met with Lee at his office Wednesday evening and said he made vague promises of political reform. Lee said earlier in a statement that he would not propose any changes before he is sworn in for a six-year term May 20.
The curfew, which starts at 4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, comes after recent "disruptions by unsupervised youth on weekends," according to Rachel Willie, a public relations specialist with Brookfield Properties.
At least three of the attacks were reported along trails near Lake Brandt, according to the Piedmont Fat Tire Society.
"Guilford County's goal is voluntary compliance and we believe that education is our primary tool in getting compliance," County Attorney J. Mark Payne said.
People 65 and older, medical professionals and frontline workers are among those eligible, the county said in a text alert.

"All of our animal care and vet techs worked with her daily to gain her trust and turn her from fearful to soliciting attention," a spokeswoman for Guilford County Animal Services said.
