On growing up: Rogers said he almost quit high school but was encouraged by football coach Roy Boyles to stick it out and graduate. “I didn’t like the fact that they didn’t educate me, I mean the education people was white America. I needed to know something about me — other than looking at a textbook in February. I needed more.”
On the protests: “When you have corporations who support you, that speaks volumes. When you have a diverse group of people who are marching with you, that speaks volumes.” However, he said, “Don’t get caught up in the fact of me being a Black man, get caught up in the fact that I want to make sure I do what is right for all people.”
