TWO MEN CHARGED IN W-S ROBBERY

Two men were charged Saturday with trying to steal about $22,000 worth of jewelry and household items from Ames Department Store, Forsyth County deputies said.

Cpl. L.C. Hall said two deputies and a Winston-Salem police officer arrived at the Ames store on North Patterson Avenue northwest of Winston-Salem about 5:20 a.m. They were alerted by a burglar alarm.Deputy J.B. Davis caught one man walking out the store's front door with merchandise in his hands, Hall said. Deputy C.J. Kilby and Winston-Salem officer T.L. Perkins caught a second man after a short foot chase, Hall said.

Hall said the burglars were making trips inside the store and placing what they could into a car parked outside.

The two men facing burglary charges in the robbery attempt are Antonio Leon McDaniels, 22, and Robin Lamar Moses, 18. They were being held Saturday at the Forsyth County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.

Deputies did not release their addresses.
