NEW YORK - The last of Tyus Edney's 13 assists Friday night was the longest and the one that mattered most for No. 21 UCLA.

The Bruins (3-1) scored four points in the final 4.3 seconds to take a wild 86-83 victory over No. 7 Florida State and third place in the preseason NIT.UCLA (3-1) got within 83-82 with 1:13 left on a 3-pointer by Shon Tarver. Those were the last points scored until the wild final seconds.

Florida State called its last timeout with 10 seconds to play to avoid a 5-second call on the inbounds pass. When the ball was finally inbounded it was stolen by Edney and his long pass found Mitchell Butler, who laid it in and was fouled with 4.3 seconds to play.

Butler missed the free throw, but Richard Petruska of UCLA tipped it in for the final margin. One final shot by Florida State was well short.

Florida State (2-2), which trailed by 15 points early in the second half, rode the hot shooting of Bob Sura to an 81-73 lead with 4:51 left. But after Sura's second straight 3-pointer the Seminoles went scoreless from the field for the rest of the game as they missed four shots and committed six turnovers. No turnover was as big as the last one, however.
